Walter Lindner (1936-2007)
Walter Lindner (1936-2007) was a true master of his oeuvre, creating wonderfully composed and graphic artworks. Over 40 years he perfected his technique, hand pressing monotype prints onto parchment from glass plates that he painted with oils: the basis for his unique and original works. Approved one-off prints were then embellished, often elaborately, with pen and ink and sometimes adding gold leaf. Lindner was considered a genius by fellow artists and tutors in Germany. He studied at the Berlin University and exhibited annually at the Frankfurt Art Fair, longer than any other artist.
Exhibitions of his work in the 70's and 80's were very successful in the Berlin area, but Lindner was a gentle man and did not seek publicity. However, his work lives on and has been much collected in both Germany and in the UK.
Art Collector Simon Hearnden, unearthed the last remaining works of Walter Lindner whilst visiting Berlin in 2006 and was so impressed by the quality and beauty of the work that he sold his house in the UK to purchase the entire collection and bring it back to the UK to start the 'Lindner Collection'.
The papillon Gallery are proud to be authorised by Simon as the only online gallery to promote Lindner's work online and through its gallery in Newport, Essex.
