Charles Mozley ( 1914-1991)
Charles Mozley was born in Bradford in 1914.
He studied at Sheffield School of Art and then the lively Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts.
He was granted a wartime pass to paint during the conflict and afterwards became a highly sought after commercial artist, book illustrator and printer,
However, it is his amazing body of paintings which really capture the imagination and are truly different, quirky and daring.
The Charles Mozley Trust was set up in 2018 ( refer to www.charlesmozleytrust) by the Mozley family with the purpose of restoring the name of British artist Charles Mozley where it belongs.
'An independent mind & somewhat provocative spirit, few artists like Mozley connected the bygone era of British post-impressionism while pioneering British graphic & illustrative design.
Mozley's versatility represented both his mastery of visual mediums & his uncanny ability to mix tradition with the non-conventional, often using humour & provocation as a form of artistic expression.'
