Paul Karslake RSA was an iconic Essex painter who lived and worked around famous world celebrities, counting Ronnie Wood as his brother-in-law and being inspired by the likes of David Bowie and Michael Caine in a great period in British history!
His work is fantastic and covered many different genres and styles from wildlife to celebrity portraits to famously producing designs for the Virgin F1 racing cars!
He won the Evening Standard Environment Award in April 1990 and also became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts the same year.
He has many high profile patrons and had a hugely successful artistic career as well as being a lovely man. The Karslake Centre, was opened for arts student in Essex in 2005.
'Rhino Love' is a testimony to his incredible versatility and love of wildlife. There is a real impasto feel to the paint on the rhino's skin and it actually feels how you would imagine a rhino hide to feel!
But the expression of the two main characters in the image is what makes this painting great particularly considering the subject matter.
It is a large canvas measuring 78cm x 110cm and is presented in a deluxe black box frame . The painting is signed lower right and is a real eyecatcher!
